Lyrics
Efa has a tavern, her hair is wild and she is magic
The food she serves is magic too, but
Men are afraid of her.
She wants a child, but despairs of finding a father
She conjures a creature from branches and clay
and the creature slowly grows…
a child slowly forms…
a child made of branches and clay.
And he says, hold me tight, so I can’t fly away
Quiet me, when I’m too afraid,
When I’m spinning end on end, crashing through chairs and pottery
When I’m spinning end on end, crashing through chairs and pottery
Fix me when I’m broken
with branches and clay
There’s talk that Efa’s crazy and has stolen a child
She ignores the talk, but hides him away
And her magic keeps him safe.
Efa guards the child, she knows that he’s not like the others
She gives him a raven to be his friend
And the raven’s not afraid…
the raven doesn’t care that he’s only
made of branches and clay
And he says, hold me tight, so I can’t fly away
Quiet me, when I’m too afraid,
When I’m spinning end on end, crashing through chairs and pottery
When I’m spinning end on end, crashing through chairs and pottery
Fix me when I’m broken
with branches and clay
Efa’s turning silver, arthritic hands and brittle magic
Takes all her power just to keep them both alive
and the raven sees it all.
Time’s running out, she summons winds from all four corners
Engulfs the tavern, ripping post and beam
and the wind lifts them away…
there’s nothing left to see…
just one lonely raven
and branches and clay
And they sing, hold me tight, so we can fly away
From today, our hearts will never stray
As we’re spinning end on end, crashing through chairs and pottery
Spinning end on end, crashing through chairs and pottery
Hold me as we’re breaking
into branches and clay
